Thomas Bachner is Assistant Professor at the Department of Business Law at the University of Economics and Business Administration in Vienna (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien), where he has also participated in a number of teaching and research projects at the Research Institute for Central and Eastern European Business Law (Forschungsinstitut für mittel- und osteuropäisches Wirtschaftsrecht, FOWI).

He holds two master?s degrees (law and management science) and a doctoral degree in law form the University of Vienna. Between 2000 and 2004 he spent four years in England, where he obtained an LL.M. from Cambridge University and subsequently taught comparative law at Cambridge and company law at the London School of Economics. He is currently working towards a Ph.D. at Cambridge University.

He has published widely, both in German and English, on various aspects of company law. His experience includes acting as a consultant to the Austrian Federal Ministry of Justice in matters of EC company law harmonisation. In 2004 the Austrian Science Fund (Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung) awarded him the prestigious START-prize to carry out a project on European company law.
